Cycle the City: 100
A family and kid friendly ride to celebrate the joys and benefits of cycling! And a 100 years of Portsmouth being a cycling city! Save the date: April 19th at 11am!
Portsmouth Climate Action, (together with partners) are organising a family‑friendly, group cycle ride across Southsea.
The event will celebrate the joys and benefits of cycling!
The ride will also celebrate 100 years of cycling in Pompey since it became a city in 1926. Clubs such as Portsmouth CTC were set up in that year, and cycling became the most common way to commute for dockyard workers for decades.
We want to reclaim this heritage: Portsmouth was a cycling city for most of the 20th century and with a network of cycle lanes in place it could become one again.
Mostly we hope this event will encourage families, children, OAPs, students, and others to enjoy the experience of riding together in a supportive environment.
When: The ride will happen on Sunday April 19th, starting at 11am
Who: Anyone who loves cycling is welcome: kids are particularly welcome, and we will go at a pace that accommodates them.
Route: Is in Southsea and approximately 3 km long: see map here
Safety: The ride will be insured through Cycling UK and have experienced ride leaders and marshals who have led similar events in the past.
Picnic: It will end with a picnic at Southsea Common, where we will share food and fun activities. If you feel to, bring food and a picnic blanket
