Portsmouth Climate Action is run by local residents who volunteer their time and skills. We currently have vacancies for the roles below. If you don’t feel any of them quite match what you’d like to offer, please get in touch.

Social Media content creator
Immediate start
We need help to promote our educational courses / workshops / projects / campaigns on IG, Facebook and TikTok, and are looking for someone to produce content that stimulates widespread interest and engagement.
Skills neededPrevious experience of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok etc.
Experience or an interest in video editing/production.
Experience/an interest in Marketing and Social Media.
A commitment to volunteering on a regular basis.
Self-motivated with a creative flair.
Tasks include:Heading up our Climate Champions campaign which will feature local businesses, organisations and residents who are doing their bit to make Portsmouth a greener, less polluted and happier place.
Liaising with the core team to create video content for the Climate Champions campaign and our TikTok page
Working with the graphic design team to produce online content, promoting our educational courses and workshops
Developing content that draws the attention of different social groups and ages.
Developing brand awareness and an online reputation.
Location: Mostly working from home with Google Meets as needed. There will also be occasional visits to community locations for the purposes of videoing some Climate Champions and projects.
Time commitment: Ideally we are looking for a volunteer to commit to a few hours a week- to suit your schedule. The role (after a trial period) is for a minimum of 3 months. -
Core team member
Do you have experience / knowledge in how to green transport, domestic homes, construction, or businesses? We want to expand our core team so we can do even more exciting projects such as decarbonise the Hayling Ferry, advise Victorious on how to run a greener festival, push for buses to be taken back into public ownership and so on.
Skills neededA passion for sustainability / climate action
Some experience or knowledge of how to green transport / homes / construction / business supply chains etc
A willingness to work within a team, but also to head up projects (if needed)
A commitment to volunteering on a regular basis, for at least 3 months.
Self-motivated with a creative flair.
Tasks include:
Identifying opportunities to speed up the energy transition locally
Working with the core team to create and deliver projects
Advising PCA on sustainability issues that fall within your area of knowledge.
Location: Mostly working from home with Google Meets as needed. There will also be occasional in-person team meetings and visits to community locations for the purposes of delivering projects.
Time Commitment: Ideally we are looking for a volunteer to commit to a few hours a week- to suit your schedule. The role (after a trial period) is for a minimum of 6 months. -
Marketing lead
Immediate start
We offer educational courses / workshops on climate and sustainability, and need help to market them. We also want to run tours of the Southsea sea defences that weave together the story of how the structures were built, with the reason why they have had to be built. We are looking for someone with marketing and research skills / experience to help us identify who might be interested in such tours and how best to reach those demographics.
Skills needed:
- Marketing and market research skills
- Understanding of the ecological and climate crisis (desirable)
Tasks include:
- Identify target audience for our planned tours of Southsea sea defences and marketing strategies to reach them
- Advise on the marketing of our climate courses
- Liaise with our social media team to promote tours and courses
Location: Mostly working from home with Google Meets as needed. There will also be occasional in-person team meetings and visits to community locations for the purposes of market research.
Time commitment: Ideally we are looking for a volunteer to commit to a few hours a week- to suit your schedule. The role (after a one month trial) is for a minimum of 3 months.

Research assistant
Immediate start
We are looking for someone with research skills / experience, ideally coupled with an understanding of the ecological and the climate crisis. In the first instance you would be helping us debunk some of the online myths about EVs, China, and heat pumps by compiling reputable sources and summarizing the findings in accessible language.
Skills needed:
- Research experience
- Understanding of the ecological and climate crisis (desirable)
Tasks include:
- Help us update the content of our climate awareness courses and workshops.
- Research and summarize current best practice in climate and science communication
Location: working from home with occasional in person meetings
Time commitment: 5- 10 hours a month, hours can be fitted in with your schedule

Fundraiser / grant writer
Immediate start
We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to join our team as fundraiser and grant writer. This role involves raising funds to help us create and deliver our projects, educational courses and website hub
Skills needed:
- Knowledge and previous experience of fundraising
- Experience of writing funding bids
Tasks include:
- Researching and applying for suitable grants
- Approaching individuals, shops and organisations for partnerships, sponsorships and donations
- Exploring the potential of a membership or affiliation funding model
- Developing local/community fundraising and awareness events
Location: working from home with occasional in person meetings
Time commitment: flexible depending on availability
